Engine conversion, insurance and tax question.

If someone were to buy a small engined car and then if said person were to do an engine conversion where a bigger engine was used what is the correct way to get this road legal?

What forms are needed and also is it any SIMI garage that can do the inspection or does it have to be a dealership?

Will dealerships stamp a form if they don't do the conversion? What do they check?

How if this is done is this declared regarding motor tax and also insurance?

I have seen a few threads on this but no real answers. Do most just go undeclared?

I think most will insure it as whatever the engine size is but leave the tax alone , its a very grey area to be honest seems impossible to get good honest straight facts

Agreed! So I thought I'd stick it up here and a few other places and see what answers are given.

I own one e36 318 coupe with 1.7 diesel inside and it's was declared as diesel and come with paper work from BMW dealer thay aproff conversion
Any garage can done I think if it's in proper way and than need bring car to dealer

There was only paper from dealer but conversion was made with some lads in garage

Yes and than after dealer to motor tax office to change details

Ah, so that makes sense. I wonder what form is required or what they check.

I have done this before but opposite way round bit same theory
1.6 sir civic. 1.5 engine.
All you will need to do is.
Get a rf111 change of particular form.
Bring the car to a main dealer they will stamp it (it has to be a main dealer for the make of car involved)
Send it off and you will receive a new book.

Now for the insurance side of things. You may be asked to do this ( I was)
They will send you out a couple of forms to be filled out by you and a main dealer. ThE main dealer will have to examine the full car.

A few Questions on the insurance form
underbody rust
condition of brakes
oil leaks
exposed wiring and neatness
tyre condition
Engine numbers

Basically it's like a nct report for the insurance company.

I got one of them forms sorted I advance pit stop for 50 euro.didnt even check it over.filled the firm at desk and 50 euro later all done

Handy for yourself but that was a very foolish move by the employee putting his job and the company on the line for €50
