different maker engine swap and nct?

few ideas being going through my head for a really long long term project (5+ years)

how would i get a car through a nct with a totally different engine ? as in a toyota engine in a bmw or visa versa ?
would it be impossible or just trouble to get nct?

A friend of mines dropped an sr20 into an s2000 and it passed. I was thinking about a swap for my e36 and I asked a fella in my local nct about it and he said they cant fail a car for having an engine from another manufactuer fitted.

I think it's more of an issue for tax/insurance purposes than NCT

Don't range/land rovers go through on a regular basis with bmw engines fitted, wouldn't say it's a problem

Your insurance company will ask for an engineers report for the car
