    e39 Premium performance tyre choices

The e39 530i has Falken tyres on it which, according to the internet, are a great tyre.

The tread on the rears is running pretty low and will need to be changed soon but they don't seem to give the grip I'd expect. I was driving home tonight and was still getting the traction control light coming on at 45 mph. The road was a little damp but it wasn't raining hard at the time.

Anyway, my default choice is to put Continentals on a car but it seem they to have discontinued the ContiSportContact 5 in the right size, instead they have ContiSportContact 3 which I thought were obsolete.

That's making me think of Michelin PS3s or Dunlop Sport Maxx RT.

Does anyone have any experience of the above? Any advice is welcome.

    Thanks
    John

    e39 Premium performance tyre choices

I have been running PS3's on mine for a bit over 30k now.

They're reasonably priced from oponeo at the moment too.

I drove 100 miles last night in windy wet conditions, not once did the traction control light come on hitting any standing water or in any situation for that matter.

Next time I might put on pilot super sports though given the different tread wear rating.

Edit: currently have eagle f1's on the front and ps3's on the rear. f1's are a really good tyre, they were on special on camskill.

Only complaint I have is that they always look like they're a bit soft and I had a brief period where they inexplicably lost air which healed after a while.

I put Goodyear Eagle F1 on the E91 and so far have found them very good on grip, wear and noise.

From the above I only have experience with the Sport Maxx and found them very good, I believe @[John_D] and a few other were happy with them as well. Next time I need to buy tyres I will be getting Eagle F1s as I heard nothing but good things about them and wanted to try them for a while now.

I've sport maxx on the rear of mine. Can't complain about the grip they seem very good. Having said that I'm not putting much power down through them
I've sportcontact5 on the fronts, and honestly they are very good but not much better than the rainsport2 they replaced in fact the uniroyals gave me better feedback and were less likely to tramline.

I got these fitted today. Conti no longer make a SportContact5 in 265/35/18 so I got a pair of PS3s
