    Computer stuff help?

Need some advise from anybody that might be able to help on some
computer related stuff. First problem is a new laptop that was purchased
at xmas and running windows 8.1 is refusing to work with an eircom.net email address. It appears the windows email programs requires IMAP style email address and eircoms is a pop3 type and doesn't support IMAP. Is there any way round this without getting a new email address? Or is there any decent email programmes out there to download for pc that will work for pop3 settings?

Second issue is I hope to save a large Microsoft word document to a USB stick to send to a friend the other side of the world. The bit I'm unsure of is if I save the document using my windows pc will he be able to open and view the sticks content using his Mac computer?

Thanks in advance for any help. If you could address your answers as if you were talking to a 6 year old it would be greatly appreciated also.

Hey man, do you have access to microsoft outlook or microsoft office software? IF so, you can overcome the Windows 8.1 limitation with POP accounts using that. Otherwise, you can install any amount of freebie email software. Thunderbird/Mailbird/Dreammail are a few that come to mind.

Here is Microsofts stance on the issue, you may already have read it: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-IE/windows-8/pop-email-accounts

As for the 2nd issue. Would you not use something like GoogleDrive or Dropbox to upload the file(s) and then share the link (set it up as a private link so you keep things confidential if needs be). You can find those here: http://www.google.ie/drive/ https://www.dropbox.com/

Pretty much sums up all the solutions imo with out changing OS or using hooky software If you have to send the file via usb convert it to something cross platform like pdf so it will preserve formatting etc.
