    e39 bother

    went to change my camshaft sensor and as you know the solenoid on the vanos has to be removed,,problem is someone tried to take it off before by the looks of it with a vice grips and wore away a lot of where the spanner grips,tried it with the spanner and useless,tried the vice grips and it just slides.the bolt for the sensor is behind the solenoid so im fecked,anyone any ideas..

    tried everything,gonna try avice grips,nothing will grip,its practically round.

    Could you weld a metal bar to it for leverage and undo it ?

    File 2 opposing sides of it flat, it'll create an greater area for the vice grips or even an adjustable spanner to gain purchase.

    Hi i made up a tool from a water tap wrench worked a treat. You might also get a bit of wiggle room by removing the vanos oil supply pipe and ccv pipework
    You could also try gripping as tight as you can with the vise grips and giving it a good slap with a heavy hammer to shock it loose.

    Good quality vice grips should get that no problem, are the adjusted tight enough? Might be worth getting a replacement solenoid

    I'm not sure what the access is like there but would a chain grips go around it?

    They usually do the job!
