The auld pair have a Mazda 3 at the moment, it's been faultless for the 3 years they have it. They were thinking of changing to an auto and when looking for them the susuki swift kept cropping up. Japanese reliability, easy to get in and out of,doesn't look bad either, seemed to tick all the boxes.
There are a few specialist auto dealers (on Carzone) that have low milage well specced autos for sale that should fit the bill.

Think I saw something about those 500's having difficulty on steep inclines, not sure if it was a recall.

Some of the newer seat Leon's are very good value and the later ones were loaded with extras to help sales.
Golf is always going to tick most of the boxes

The autobox in the 500s was described as a sewing machine to me recently so that's off the list

My Mrs reckons the Leon is the way to go after driving one in Spain a few years back. The Golf is the default choice but they're mad money even for high milers

That's one of 3 cars she's currently looking at. The big prob seems to be there's not many automatic ones about.
