320D E90 - Sluggish on low end - High MPG

    i have a recently acquired an E90 320D.

4 months down the line it feels incredibly sluggish when moving off. Even at higher speed on the motorway, while it's "OK" it's not "great".

According to the VIN checker info i have, this is a 161HP (120KW) 2.0D engine.

Now, my 2.0D 128HP X-Type Jag (with a ford mondeo engine) seems to deliver considerably more power than this BMW. There's a good bit of "oomph" at take-off and that engine then just keeps on delivering.

I am missing that on this BMW 320D unit, even with 30+ HP more according to the specs.

    This engine just seems DULL.
And it chews up fuel on the low end.

So i have the following in plan to begin with:

    1) Clean MAF (then test)
    2) Clean EGR Valve (then test)
    3) Replace Air filter with new
    4) Replace EGR Thermostat with new
    4) Replace Glow plugs (hopefully no problems here and now, but better than them snapping off).

    Any other suggestions?

I'd be looking for an air leak too. Keep in mind that most of these won't be apparent under normal tick over and only when under high pressure. I had a similar symptom on my E46 and it turned out to be the charge line from the I/C (the rubber elbow was split) causing an air leak under load. MPG was shit and power was an age coming.
