    Goodwood Festival of Speed

After many years of promising to make it over it looks like this
year I'm finally going to make it over to Goodwood for the Festival
of Speed. The plan is fly in to Gatwick Friday morning, rent a car and
head down for friday and saturdays proceedings, flying home Saturday
    night.
I've never been before and was just wondering if anybody on here has
been over and would like to share any wisdom on spectating at the event?

Ive been over 5 or 6 Times Brian Epic festival. ruins everything else that's all:-)
Friday is the best day as its much quieter. be early in the mornings sunday is mad and best avoided.
Its massive probably over 200 acres in all, hillclimb, rally course, manufacturers , etc
its not worth getting grandstand tickits imo .
the quality of the cars and history of them is unreal. as is the access . you can stand beside an auto union worth 20 million, look all around and inside it, stand beside it when its firing up and watch it drive up the hill in anger. lots of the cars are driven by their original drivers eg dan gurney driving a gt40 that was in le mans. hard to get around it in the 2 days and see everything.

    RE: Goodwood Festival of Speed

I try to go over every year. This year I'm flying over on Thursday night and going to the show on the Friday. As Dave said the Friday is that bit quieter in terms of crowds.

One thing that is definite is that you need to be there early. Gates open at I think 7am, not 100% sure but it does say the time on the ticket. Last year I was at the motorway exit for the event at about 6:15am and there was still a tailback of probably 5 miles at that time.

Certain stuff will get crowded very quickly, the likes of the supercars and the formula 1 cars will be mobbed after an hour or two. It helps to plan out what you want to see especially if you're attending for two days. All the cars will climb the hill twice each day and being at the top of the hill where the rally stage is normally a good spot for seeing the drivers and the doughnuts/burnouts. Be prepared for lots of walking as well as the hill itself is pretty steep with some nice views from the top.

Here's a link to my thread from last year with some photos

Ahh thats powerful information lads, fair play to ye. Ryanair flight falls out
of the sky in Gatwick friday morning about 9.30 so it'll probably be 12 ish
before we're aproaching Goodwood I guess. Will try very hard to moderate
alcohol intake on friday night to ensure an early start saturday morning now though.
    Thanks again.
