the brother started off in his first car on a provisional and was getting quotes of over 3 grand on a 1lt 106 and he's 21. Try quote devil.ie also Steve's father on here I believe may be worth asking?

Tbh man with the way insurance is going it's becoming a joke new rules etc , best bet is get as new a car as possible (and it will work out cheaper on insurance) even though the car has a higher value

    RE: insurance

My 1st insurance in my own name in 2013 at 19, On a provisional. (1 year named experience) was €1150 TPFT on a 2000 VW Golf 1.4.

Passed my test that year, Renewal came and it dropped to €950.

FirstIreland (Asgard) were the ONLY ones to give me a decent quote, Others were €2-€3k

Renewal in December, Was hoping to insure my E36.

Daughter went with boxymo for her first year 1600 on a provisional. There's a tracker box and limited milage but was perfect for getting her first year under her belt. She's on her third year now and price is 900 with its for women and that's still only on a provisional.
What can make it cheaper is adding named drivers with full licence, job description can also impact as can location of car. Try sites on line to work out cheapest combination and then ring them.
