    Swapping out 8x17 for 8.5 and 9.5x19 on 520D

    Hi All,

    Just looking for some advice.
I have just bought a 2006 520D but am not too fond of the standard 17" alloys (BMW style 122). I have an older set of 19" (BMW style 220) that a family members swapped off an M3. I wish to put these onto my car but am trying to get my head around tyre choices.

Current setup is 225/50/17 all corners with offset ET20.

Recommended tyre by BMW for the 19":
    245/35/19 front offset ET29
    265/35/19 back offset ET23.

As the roads that I drive are not always the best i would prefer more rubber between the rim and the road so ideally would like a 45 profile but would settle for a 40 profile.

I have looked into this and have found:
245/40/19 would lead to an increase in diameter of 3.1% on the front.
265/40/19 would lead to an increase in diameter of 5.4% on the back.

I reckon i would need a 15mm spacer on the front and a 20mm spacer on the back.

Has anyone here got a 19" rim of width 8.5 or 9.5 as their current setup?
    What tyres have you chosen?
Have you had any offset issues?

    Thanks in advance!

I've mentioned it here plenty of times. www.willtheyfit.com is a good site to give you a better idea of what the change will be.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for the tip!
Ive tried that site before for both the front and rear configuration and that is where i got the information relating to the spacing requirements.

I am more interested to know if anybody has run with this setup and what their experiences are.

    Cool,

    It's handy alight

From my experience in ach rolling with 19s on 3 series is they need a big enough roll and slight flare.

I've had to do an E60 with 19s before but I can't remember his tyre size. Offset is a big factor too of course.
