    325 turbo build

Hi lads, just got around to finishing my conversion in the e36 from 318 to 328 all going well and no problems so far.

It's time now to start work on my 325 I have it's a '94 m50b25 it currently an automatic but have a box there for it. In going doing a turbo setup on this and I want to do a right job and do it right first time. Time isn't a issue really with this, I have no deadline and no rush with it I want to take as much time as it needs to do it right first time and not cut any corners.

So basically what I need is any Info ye guys got on doing a turbo build, if ur done one yourselves or know of any good threads online ect ect..
I'm also looking for a few names of a few places to gather a couple of bits,
I'm going to be doing internals on this so there will be upgraded cams, head studs ect ect ye get the jist ha..

So any info would be great lads on manifolds, cams, intakes, turbo, all the crack, should be starting this mid/end of January when I have room cleared up in the garage.

    RE: 325 turbo build

    my turbo m50 guidelines

    _ engine requirements
-mls head gasket / multi-layer gasket (budget)
-arp head studs (no budget alternative)
-arp conrod bolts (not necessary )
    -pistons/conrods upgrades unnecessary but nice
    camshafts generally 248/248 (uneccassary)
intake manifold is fine but upgraded manifold helps when adding a boost controller(or use vems for boost controller without manifold upgrade ($300 eBay - 2.5k custom)
turbo manifold (can copy mine for cheap) lhd won’t fit dowpipe
    injectors (I’ve 60b)
    fuel pump (I’ve a walbro)
front mount intercooler (I’ve cxracing cheap and cheerful)

    -TUNING
miller war chip with MAP will be cheapest and easiest
gstuning do a vems ecu for 720 pound much more advanced but a lot of money for what it is ,
if no vanos a nice plug and play is very easy

    CLUTCH
    m20 lightweight single mass flywheel
    sachs 618 pressure plate / or e53 3.0d x5 pressure plate
upgraded clutch plate … clutch net.com
or else go all out and get a tilton etc etc

    GEARBOX/DIFF
328i/3.0 m3 is strong unless you want to go 6 speed
small case diff won’t last pissing time
medium is the only way , if you have a welded diff make sure you reinforce the floor pan as the extra torque will rip the trailing arms out of the car and crack subframe mountings (just going on what I’ve read I’ve no personal experience with welded diffs hah)

    BRAKES
brakes will need upgrading with all the extra power options are limitless here, I’ve evo m3 rears and e46 330i fronts

    COOLING
    metal water pump
    metal thermostat housing
m3 rad is always the best or go custom
    bigger is better
oil cooler is a good idea several ways to go about this I’ve euro m3 oil cooler housing

    TURBO
    I’ve a genuine gt3582r (garrett)
this is a grey area but if you want to go balls out get a gtx ball bearing turbo (mine is journal as its cheaper)
judge the turbo size depending on appicantion bigger means more lag and reduced torque curve so harder to drift , smaller is nicer to drift as more instant power
with turbos you get what you pay for ,in certain ways i do regret getting a garret as it needs both oil and water lines which makes things more awkward other turbos just need oil,
get the oil feed from under the intake manifold (kit available)
return to sump with a 45 degree angle bung so no need for scavenger pump then ,
water supply lines are from the throttle body lines,
with turbos you get what you pay for so don’t get shitty eBay
you will need to replace windscreen washer bottle so get creative
also depending on your turbo you may need a external waste (I’ve a 38mm tial) this is for when you have a non waste gate turbo but a wastegated can be modified for it , bov if you don’t have a external waste gate

    325 turbo build

No worries , if you want I'll send you a few photos of the manifold so you can get it fabricated up , it's fairly basic so a good tig welder would mock it up very easily

Dont forget to budget for the price of the basics either. Honing the block, skimming/machining the head, valve stem seals, re-lapping valves, chain guides/tensioner, gaskets etc. if going for lumpier cams, be best to upgrade valve springs too.

Looking forward to seeing how you get on, needs to be more engine builds on the forum!
