E39 some radio buttons not working

Anybody know the reason why button 4 and 5 on the presets on my e39 oem radio don't respond anymore?
If I scroll through the stations through the mfsw they are fine but when I physically press button 5 or 4 nothing happens

Is it an iris unit or a mid unit?

Think it's the mid one
It had bc and phone buttons etc

You can unscrew the fascia and check the contacts behind the buttons, I'm nearly sure the buttons are assembled in pairs.

I might have a mid floating about

As I said the buttons will all cycle thru the mfsw but not if you physically press 5 or 4

You can disconnect the mid and the steering wheel controls will still work.
