upgrade to 2008+ e60 2.0 Diesel

hi guys,
thinking about upgrade of my 05 e60 523i to something cheaper (taxwise ) and most of cars from 2008-2010 listed on the net are 2L diesel.
would you point me what i should look at, max mileage etc.
also, manual or auto?

any feedback highly appreciated.

The 2ltr engine in them is fantastic however they do suffer from timing chain failure. So get one where the chain has been done. Ring BMW with the last 7 digits and they will confirm if it has been done by someone in the dealer network. If done outside dealer network look for proof

If chain hasn't been done factor in around €1500 for it to be done

yeah, was thinking the same as my current e60 is auto ... but most of the market are manuals

My e60 was manual and my f10 is auto and tbh I dont think I'll be going manual again. Effortless driving and very smooth.

Had an E60 manual and the one regret I had was not going for an auto.
