Yea I noticed inside my S54 its stained yellow with mild residue I could scratch off with my nail. And my engine has had oil changes every 7k from new. I am very lucky to have that service history and previous owners that minded the engine. So for an engine with that level of service I am not to happy with castrol and will be changing it for something else from now on.
What is the new shell like?

For what it's worth, I've always put Mobil 1 5W30 into my 530D's and anytime I've been under the rocker cover (not that often mind) and over 300K miles across 3 different M57's - they are like new - I tend to stick with Mobil 1 as I've never had to shell out for a blower either. So I'd agree with what Valdeis stated earlier - If I had a M3 I'd be opting for Mobil1 in the factory advised grade.

I'll be doing the same
Haven't seen under the rocker cover yet but will be doing an oil change at the weekend with Mobil 1 and an inspection 2 in a few weeks
