Worried about n47 chain on car im about to buy

    Hi lads,

So, next week im due to pick up an immaculate 2008 520d msport.
I forgot to check if it had the n47 engine in it. I presume it has though.
Car has full bmw service history but its well out of warranty.

How long is a piece of string question... Is this chain problem across the board on all n47's? How much, if i buy it to get it sorted before is snaps?
    Should i simply just avoid?

    Thanks in advance
    Stephen

Recently bought a 2011 car with an N47 and 40k miles on it from a main dealer.

Only bought it because it has a BMW warranty...if it didnt have, i wouldnt have.

    Thanks guys.
Have spent hours reading about this. It seems like you said Schooner me - if it hasn't been done don't buy it.

If you buy from the garage and you get warranty will they still cover this as it seems gauranteed to snap in this engine.

Urge thanks guys. Found a great example with low mileage and full history. If this isn't done I'll email avoiding

I'd be the opposite if the cars priced right I'd rather have the chain put in myself at least then Id know exactly what was done and what parts were used and the exact date it went in buying a car under bmw warranty will have a premium and the premium in buying it will probably be more then the cost of having an Indy replace the chain

The car would nearly want to be 8 or 9k to consider buying it though. 2k seems to be the rate on here to get it done

i better do it my self or do by somebody i would trust ,but not some stupid paper in your hand and no idea what was done and was it done at all . have seen some monkey papers and even sellers who says it was done but didnt sound to be truth .

if to think that somebody might and will broke ,so i have no choices what next car i could buy ,becouse they all have their own problems .

    Thanks Valdelisbmw.

I was just about to message you.
I'm coming around to your way of thinking. My wife was just saying this also

So say I buy the car - it would be immediately making its way to you for the work to get done. What would be the cost?

    Thanks,
    Stephen
