    Mini cooper s feedback

    The missus is thinking of buying a facelift cooper s 06+. To be honest I don't know much about them at all I've never even been in one. I'm just looking for some advice really. What do I look for when viewing one? What are they like to run etc? I've a feeling shes going to get a big land getting into one of them from a 1.2 polo.

    Avoid. The fucking timing chains fall off like no one's business, and the cost savings in the R56 model were so jewish the car's feels like it's made from the inside plastic trays you get in a box of Milk Tray. Source: Worked for MINI for 7 years.

    Yep would tend to agree with the above. Get her an R53, smaller charger pulley and you'll love the sound of it. Seem to be a better built car too!

    Thanks for the replies lads. Shes needs to keep it up the years for insurance big difference from the likes of a 2004. Still troublesome even if the chain has beem replaced? And you know women now she just wants the facelift :P

    chains , engine bottom end- oil burning problem , leaks all around , its just as worst as e46 with N46 engine

    The 1.6 petrol NA version from 2007 to 2010 is ok
    It is also used in Peugeot/Citroen and is quiet reliable.

    The thing is with Mini, you can buy the engine parts from Peugeot for 1/4 of the price at BMW.
    The diesel version is problematic with the chains etc, a chain kit for Mini at BMW costs 1000 euros to buy. The same kit at Peugeot is 250 euros.

    Either way make sure every single electric function and bulbs and lights on cluster etc are working.
    Very common issue on those as well are corroded/damaged wires somewhere under the carpet.

    Footwell modules and connections on them are common on most coopers . Same as other later bmw cars .
