    2001 E38 728i M-Sport Individual

    Hi All,
I have decided to sell my 7 in the hopes of replacing it with something like an 8 or an E24. I bought it in February of last year and have loved owning it having been looking for the right one for years. I havent done much of a thread on it here so the advertisement below will have to serve as its thread. I have it entered into tomorrows Terenure Classic Car Show and it can be viewed there or if you arent going just drop me a message here and we can arrange something. I live in Shankill in Dublin and am free most evenings/weekends.

The car is a 2001 728i M-Sport Individual. It was one of the last E38s produced and left the factory in July of 2001, the final production month. It has the M52 straight 6 engine putting out 190bhp and uses a five speed steptronic gearbox. All of the performance and engine stats I pulled from the web as I am not an engines guy but I can tell you that the power is sufficient without ever blowing your socks off and while anyone buying this car wont be too concerned by fuel economy I can tell you it will get high 30's mpg on a motorway run and mid twenties around town in traffic.

The car started its life in the UK and it has a phenomenal history from main dealers there. I have had the history as well as all warranty work checked by a main BMW dealer and have reams of paperwork to back everything up. Since I bought it I have had lots of work done to bring it to the fantastic condition it is in.

Almost as soon as I bought it the gearbox sump developed a leak and fortunately this happened just as I was pulling into my work car park. A trip on a friendly AA truck and a new sump and gearbox service followed with all work carried out by former BMW Main Dealer mechanic and now Independent BMW Specialist mechanic Dave Lonergan of DL Motorworks. Dave has also replaced the radiator and hoses, installed a new battery, replaced the DSC pre-charge pump, replaced a broken bonnet release cable, replaced a broken rear parking sensor and carried out a full service along with a general health check on the car. I also sourced a replacement genuine amplifier unit as the sound from the stereo was cutting out intermittently and since it has been installed it is perfect. Like many E38s, E39s and E53s the pixels on the OBC were damaged. The entire unit was removed and sent to a specialist in thh UK who installed an upgraded display which while completely matching the OEM look has none of the flaws of the old system. The pixels are now perfect.

The current mileage, which is backed up by lots of history files is just over 98,000 miles.
That's less than 7,000 miles a year and makes it the lowest mileage 7 on sale in Ireland at the moment.

The car has genuine 20" Alpina Softline alloys complete with all four locking centre caps and new tyres. If I was keeping the car I would have the wheels refurbished as they do have scuffs and some bubbling on the paint and would really benefit from it. To buy them new I am told would have cost in the region of €3,500 and they really make the car stand out.

In addition to the wheels the real selling point of the car, aside from its condition, is the Individual Paintwork and Upholstery. It is one of very few 7's in Avus Blue with Pearl Beige leather with complimentary blue piping. The leather is in excellent condition with only a small amount of wear on the driver's seat. The deep blue carpets are in as new condition and the anthracite roof lining found only on M-Sport models is perfect.

The seats are the hugely adjustable Contour seats found on all M-Sport models. They have lumbar support, thigh support, lower back support, upper back support, basically everything but child support! I'm a big guy and I have never had a seat give such comfort and support and that includes the ones in my M3.

Spec wise the car comes with the factory Communications Package which included the 16:9 Wide Screen Monitor with CD based navigation, 6 disc CD Changer in the boot and connection for a motorola mobile phone in the centre arm rest. The CD based Nav is useless so I upgraded the navigation computer to the Mark IV DVD based unit which is much better. I havent updated the map cd in a while but its the best navigation system that you could get on a car of this era and in fact I am told the DVD system was never available on the E38 so its a nice touch.

The car also has factory TV function although like all cars you will need to upgrade this to a digital receiver if you want to get signal these days. I did it on my M3 and again if I was keeping the 7 I would do it on that too. The UK owner installed twin headlining mounted monitors for the rear seats as well as wireless headsets and a TV tuner and DVD player in the boot with remote control. When I bought it they weren't working and I have never gotten around to getting them checked properly. The former owner, who I have spoken to a few times since buying it has told me that they were working fine when he got it but at some stage one of his kids managed to lock them-self in the boot and must have done some damage as they never worked since. Its a job that anyone buying the car may want to get done.

The car has to be seen to be truly appreciated and it is going to make anyone looking for an E38 very very happy. The amount of work that I and previous owners have done to it should mean problem free ownership for whoever buys it and I honestly think it is the nicest and possibly the rarest 7 in the country.

It is currently being given another FULL detail by my specialist detailer including full paint protection ahead of tomorrow's show. I will photograph it in detail later but for now I have put up some that I have on the phone including a shot of the library of paperwork that will come with it. I have all the keys that came with the car as well as a set of two keys for the locking Alpina Centre caps. It is NCT'd until September and I am sure it will fly through the next one.

The Price is €5,495 which makes it the most expensive E38 on the web in Ireland but its a case of you getting what you pay for and anyone coming to see it will understand.

If you have any questions please get in touch or indeed if you are heading to the show tomorrow I will be there all day.
