    E90 335d Opinions

Looking for feedback on the 335d and general issues or drawbacks if any common ones are known.

I was previously set on an Alpina D3 BiTurbo, but with no visibility on VRT cost, I don't fancy being a guinea pig and being at the mercy of revenue.

I'm looking at a pre LCI E90 saloon with low miles, from a main dealer, I'd prefer a 335i saloon, but they're even more rare. I'd also prefer an LCI model, but again, can't find any.

I could go with an LCI 320d M Sport quite easily, but I don't do that many miles and we already have a 120d M Sport in the house, so no need for another sensible car

So, anything I should look out for or be wary of? It'll only really get use at the weekend, fairly good runs for an hour or so at least I'd saybut it can also be used for M50 commute fairly regularly.

I know they're not a cheap car, or particularly economical, but it'll do better mpg than my 325 and the tax is only a but higher.

    Interested in all opinions

335d is such a good car, I'll write a Haiku about it.

    "So much torque to use.
    Power and efficiency.
    Lovely place to be."

However, if you're set on a 335i hold out for one. It's worth it for the sound alone and as you say you don't need another sensible car

Ha well having driven your old one I can attest to that, but I can't hold out for a 335i, as I don't think there are any low mileage 335i saloons anywhere. I've been on to a lot of main dealer and specialists in the UK, and I'm not prepared to spend the money they're telling me I'd need to spend on a low miles one... VRT is at least €5k on an 09 one too.

Has to be a 4 door, I'd have no hassle finding a coupé, but it's not an option.

BTW - finding cars like this in the main dealer network in the UK will be hard going as they tend not to carry many cars past about 6 years old, so you'll likely need to look at other non-BMW franchise or reputable Indy dealers I suspect.

Don't rule out the 330i. From late '07 they had 272bhp - not a million miles off the 335i - and VRT is about a grand less than a same age and mileage. Example below. I have the 272bhp engine in my e60 and that old girl can pick up her skirts and run very noticeably compared to any of the other cars I have.

With both 330i and 335i you need to check the specific CO2 figure on the reg doc as the ED tech was introduced around late '07 but there will be some '08 cars with the higher previous CO2 figures. Getting it wrong on a '08 335i compared to getting it right on a '08 330i could be the difference between road tax of €2350 and €750.

Cheers for the input, I've found an 06 one with low miles in a main uk dealer with warranty etc. VRT is working out at about €1500, so I'm ok with that, but tax is €1,494, which is hard to take.

Thanks Gar, saw that last week, just too high in the miles for me I'm afraid, with no warranty to fall back on either.

The buddy had a pre lci autovogue 335d, what a car to pull. It did have a remap but my god it was a cracking engine. Only problem as you said there a hard car to find.

He actually sold his back to the UK so the VRT rebait helped against his new car.
