Advantage - Eh, not a jot. (just reduces environmental soot).

Disadvantages - 1 - another restriction in the exhaust gas flow (after the CAT) 2, another thing to go wrong and give problems (And they do, especially if you do short runs), generally a ball ache that the tree huggers lobbied to get added.

Depends on the year, current diesels are required to have them and I think they became mandatory since 2009. If a 2010 doesn;t have one, it may have been taken out / mapped. What kind of car are you getting?

They keep the exhaust nice and clean. If it gives trouble you can just get it taken out and coded out anyway.

It's an early 2010 fiesta 1.6, google is saying they only started adding the dpf in mid 2010

IIRC the DPF was pretty much an essential requirement in order to meet EU5 Emissions regulations, though they may have been fitted to some vehicles earlier.

The regulations were introduced in late 2009 and all cars sold after Jan 1 2011 had to comply with EU5. Being registered prior to 1/1/2011 the Fiesta in question doesn't have to have a DPF fitted, and NCT will probably only care if one was fitted from the factory and removed - similar to their take on cats.

So, from a purchasing point of view, happy days, one less thing to go wrong. The downside is probably that the emissions on the car are probably higher than one with the DPF fitted and EU5 compliant and so may be subject to slightly higher road tax.

Ah Ford, Okay.... Is it a 90 or 95BHP?
The 90BHP didn't have one, I think some of the early Mk7 had the earlier 90 engine.

€200 to tax earlier one, DPF cars are €180 or €190 I think.

Yep it's the 90hp, I'm new to diesels so tryin to get my head around what's involved with them. I'm won't complain too much if it's 200 a year

Wouldnt worry then.... Mine is November 2008 and has no DPF. (1.6TDCI 90) The 1.6TDCI 110 (Focus engine had a DPF)
AFAIK when they changed to the 95 DPF came standard on Fiestas.

Great engine, Just need looking after. I service mine every 6k (Oil is reasonably cheap from Ford)
Mines just under 110k Miles now.

There's a guy in the UK who has built a twin turbo. (240bhp/350 ft-lbs)
