    Recommended DIY's to do - 2006 520d

    Hi guys

I've finally bitten the bullet and bought a diesel during the week - 2006 520d m47 engine

what i'm looking to do is give it a full once over and do some things to it that are going to make it be much more reliable and safe along with it driving better too. so all mechanical related

Plan so far- although it's only from reading up so any tips\help appreciated and where to get parts

    • Oil and filter change, with new oil level sensor

    • Gearbox oil change

    • Swirl flaps removed

    • change to newer LCI vortex crankcase breather

what else should i look to be doing? Any tips or ideas appreciated

i'll start a thread in the coming days

Put the best quality oil in it you can afford. I swear by Mobil 1 5W 30 was VSTL now called ESP formula (for cars with DPF's - low ash). I've had 3 530D's with the M57 engine (same as M47 but two more pots) I've got so much mileage out of them and the turbo's it's unreal. I know a lot of other guys in the trade believe it also, my current 530D has 165K and inside the oil filler is pristine (like factory), I've had the rocker cover off once and it was like a new build. My 2nd 530D and I parted at 286K factory turbo - no shit.
