Insurance won't cover me

Hi guys

Just off the phone with my insurance (Liberty) to transfer my insurance over to my new car with no satisfaction.

The car is a 08 bmw 520d Msport (177bhp).

I was told that liberty will not insure anyone under 30 in this model as it's a high performance car (the previous car I had insured with them was 240bhp - with zero issues).

They have said that if I send on a copy of the log book they will see what they can do but somehow I don't hold out much hope.

Just wondering if any of you guys on here have had any issues similar and what did you do to rectify the problem?

I'm 26 with full NCB.

It's absolutely scandalous the way it's gone. When you were 21 you had to be 25, when your 25 you have to be 30. I have two friends having the same issues with liberty. I'm 24 and i got insurance on a 330d no problem , it doesn't make sense.

Completely agree. Insurance in this country has gone a bit mad to be fair.

Would have thought that coming from a performance hatch with 240bhp down to a diesel saloon with 177bhp would have given me a saving on insurance 😂

Wait till you start getting to the other end!! They'll start wanting you to be younger.

My insurance went up by €255 on the M6, sickening.

Somehow I think we'll never beat the insurance companies 👎

Absolute craziness that the longer you are on the road claim-free the more your renewal seems to cost each year

Done this with my gti. My 323 and the 320d. All came back fine from there underwriters and no increase

Reminds me of the time my then girlfriend wanted to insure a 2 door punto - they loaded that because they said it was a "coupe" - they are a shower of blatant gangsters.

Got on grand no increase from the 320d even went fully comp with no extra charge. Took them about a hour to get back to me

As for the punto thing

Friend of mine has a 00 punto and there's no increase to go to a Honda Accord euro R

Ah I get you now! Misunderstood your comment first time around

Will get a copy of the log book emailed out to them asap and see what comes back I guess
