    BMW E46 steering noise

I get a strange noise from the steering of my E46 320d only when turning left a little enthusiastically at low speeds. It doesn't happen when turning right at all. The steering feels normal, there's no play and the car still goes exactly where you point it. I had the flexible pipe from the exhaust replaced about 6 months ago and from googling, it might be the source of the noise. It might be coming into contact with the steering rack if it's not fitted correctly.

Does that sound plausible? Are these parts even next to each other in the engine bay?

    Thanks
    Brian

Yeah the flexi pipe is right next to the link arm from the rack. Jack up and secure the car on drivers side and take a look while a friend turns lock to lock.
