The engine light in my e39 doesn't come on with ignition , it does work when I do a cluster test and if I get a fault code stored it illuminates.

Does anyone have the same problem? Or is it normal, I can't remember if my last e39 was the same.

That's normal from what I remember. The newer stuff has. The EML light come on!alright but not the e39.
Mine has always illuminated on mine on ignition, 99/01/02/03 models, all petrols though!
