I think it depends on the year of the car.
Anything up to 2010 will get a high number, from 120k up in Dublin. It looks like 2011 onwards reverted to the next sequential numbers from where they finished off in the year.
Never understood why they did this, and then when they did start doing it, why they stopped.

Didnt they loose a heap of data - didnt know where exactly the registration number from each year was at, so had to pick a safe number to continue on from!
So say in 2010, they lost all the data; for a 2009 car, they might have known the last number was 103***, they decided to play it safe and start at 120*** and go from there.
Imported a 2011 car in 2016 and it is mid 50,000 in numbers
Up to 2010 will get a 12xxxxx number but 2011+ is more normal

Can it really be that many digits seems very excessive on eireplates it will only go so far probably all they can fit on the plate dimensions
