    Tesla BMW

So I got me a Tesla Model S drive unit. 450hp of American muscle. Once I get it running I need to put it in a car. Since the motor / inverter / transaxle are all one unit it will need to go in the car as is. Any thoughts on whether it would be possible to modify a subframe to fit?

E46 e49 looks like it work fine in the rear Damien. E46 steel subframe so easier to modify.

I'll be fascinated to watch this one progress!

    Best of luck with it.

The e36 / e46 does have a steel frame, but it'll probably tear the floor out of it
E39 is a better prospect for load bearing, but has an aluminium sub frame, are you geared up for MIG or TIG? The frame also has the benefit of having a bigger space to work the assembly into.

Whats the Tesla rated torque at the diff?

Wow nice unit to fit into something so I'd be trying for the lightest car so I'd be looking e36 to see would it work

That amount of torque in an e30 (given weight and handling bias) could be fun, on many levels....

I can't see it working in an e30 without loosing the rear seat. Very hard to get suspension to work on an e30 also.
E46 boot floor is not an issue and easy to work around

I would think an e39 would be the most planted car to put this motor in, the subframe might cause issues though. I could donate you a subframe if you wanted to experiment. I have an e39 that should have been crushed ages ago with subframes still attached.

Thanks for the fedback guys. The motor is specced to 690NM at the shaft at full power. There is a 9.73:1 reduction gear so the torque is kinda ridiculous A friend in the uk reckons he can get me an LSD made to replace the open diff in the unit. The E39 is an interesting idea. I had been thinking of an E63 ....
