Can someone explain to me in plain English about the towing weights and restrictions
I have read the RSA website but still not sure.
I suppose what I want to know is could an e34/e39 tow an e28/e36 assuming you had a BE licence?
I see the BE licence limit is 3500KG - does that mean the car towing, the trailer and the car on the trailer must not exceed 3500kg?
At what point do you need a jeep to use for towing?
It's confusing.... From my understanding a BE licence means you can tow 3500kg.
Say an E39 530D has a towing capacity of 2000kg.
So you have a transporter with a gross weight of 2000kg, trailer itself weighs 400kg that means the car on it must be under 1600kg.
I think Falcon on here used to tow his E36 tracl car with his E39?

This will be under the bonnet somewhere, The 2505kg is gross weight of car, the 4200kg will be combined weight of car AND trailer. (But trailer itself can't be over 1695kg, 4200-2505)

The 3500kg is trailer only not combined on a BE licence.....
"You can tow a trailer
In all cases where the MAM of the vehicle and trailer combination is greater than 3500kg but less than 7000kg."
From the NDLS website under what does my BE licence cover.
Also for anything over 750kg the trailer must have brakes
