[E60] NCT failed on HID bulbs in non-HID headlights ...wtf?

    Hi guys,
just got NCT done on my '10 E60 with everything in flying colours but headlights: got fail on HID bulbs fitted (as per NCT tester) into NON-HID headlights.
As far as i know, theres no difference between the lenses in both types of headlights and my previous 05 E60 had the same headlights fitted and passed NCT without a problem.
As a reason of that, had to book re-test and will have to pay more money to get NCT cert ....
Can i lodge official complain to NCTS or is no point to do so?

    Any feedback highly appreciated

    cheers
    kris

AFAIK HID's headlamp projectors are different. That's why it's illegal to fit them in non HID / non projector headlamp units.

..thats weird tbh, was told by a guy who did fit HIDs that lensed headlamps are ok, just reflector ones are illegal ....

I had the same issue with my car where it came with HID aftermarket bulbs installed when I bought it. It passed the NCT two years ago no problem. The headlights are projector type. On it’s last NCT this year it failed. I was told that aftermarket HID bulbs would not pass and that they had to be factory fitted HID’s with headlight washers.

Ah, so it's the washers that are the "critical" difference it seems?

There are vert little cars with factory xenons an no washers, apart from some japanese imports hondas/evos etc. All euro spec cars must have washers and auto leveling for factory xenons.
