    E92 335d

Been looking for a replacement for my R53 Mini Cooper S for a few months now - requirement was something with with more space to ferry 2 kids (6 & 7) and enough boot space for their kit (mostly footballs, hurleys and scooters) - I also want something with pace, reasonably cool and refined. I've looked at E70 X5, E6X 630/635d, E9X 330/335/335d, A7 and Q7 among others. I know it's a crazy mix but that's the problem - I'm not exactly sure what I want.

Until today - took an E92 335D in Cameron Cars for a test drive and it ticks a lot of boxes - the outright speed is ridiculous, it's refined (very tight for a 10yr old car), it's still a cool car and there's enough space for the kids and their kit.

I've read a lot about these cars (and all the others) over the past few months but I wanted to check with the local experts - outside possible issues with carbon build up/EGR/DPF is there anything else I should be aware of that is specific to these cars? I had EGR replaced and swirl flap blanking plates fitted to my E90 by Conor at Courtney.

I'm planning to put a deposit tomorrow so any/all feedback very welcome

Buy it for the reg alone!

I hate diesel but its the one engine that would almost tempt me. Those twin turbo units really pull you along. Bob has a very good reputation and I wouldnt think he would be selling it if it werent in good shape. Its an old car though so fight hard on warranty etc

Thanks - Bob was a pleasure to deal with and had a good chat about cars in general The 35d was a lovely car and plenty of pace - just missing a sound track but I can live with that for little while

    Before buying

Check your Vacuum pipes, if badly perished they will need doing, if left your pressure oconvertors will fail

Check your running temps (hidden menu) to see if you need new thermostats

Only other thing I can think of that I replaced was glowplugs and the controller. A slight weep from failed swirlflaps was suspected in killing the controller so I blanked them. I took mine from 80k miles to 140k miles without any issues, although I did replace nearly every component of the suspension with a refresh around 110k miles.

Seems very expensive to me - a lot of '08 diesel cars seem to carry a very hefty premium over an identical '07 machine for a lower tax rate - eg. this one previously sold on the site

At that price (or even at €10k), assuming a comprehensive 1 year warranty, else the lad is taking the piss ?
