Get yourself a 06 or 07 and pay the extra tax, older engine (M47) is a far better lump. The cost of road tax versus maintenance costs will level itself out over a period of time.

You even have the bonus of getting the E60 lci cross over model that has the lci parts with the M47 engine, mostly 2007 cars and some into 2008.

So is the one to look out for a run out M47 registered early in 2008 on the lower tax ?

There is one in Cork on Donedeal but is a manual. I will be driving this car into the ground so I am not willing to settle when I want an auto over a manual.

Yep but I don’t think there as low on tax as the equivalent N47 model

Unless insurance on older cars is an issue for you that 525d would be surely worth a look, yeah its 06 and older tax but you'd prob get it for less than 5k, tax it for a year with the spare funds. It would be a good car for years to come.

I have an 06 S60 2.4d so I am already paying big tax and frankly I am tired of it. I do biggish miles so want something that will manage 50mpg with relative ease. I had an E60 530d and it only managed 44mpg versus 60mpg that my old e90 320d could do on my commute. I also may wish to sell on next summer so getting something reasonably easy to move on is important. The only thing is my S60 has its NCT these weekend and if it passes I'll cancel the hunt as I will only truly need it until June.

My Volvo S60, which I believed wouldn't pass an NCT without serious work needed only failed on some tie rods so I am going to keep it. An impending move abroad means it need not be replaced so the search is over now. Thanks for all the contributions, much appreciated.
