    Disposing of old alloys

    Hi,

    Possibly a silly question...

I have a set of alloy wheels sitting at home that I want to get rid of. What is the best way to get rid of them? They're 18's so they seem like they would be too heavy/chunky to just throw in the bin (I live in an apartment so there is shared waste collection). I can't think where else I could bring them. Any thoughts?

    Cheers!

Are they cracked / buckled / corroded? If they're usable, you could offer them for free here? Someone may take them off you're hands. Or else why wouldn't you stick them up on DoneDeal?

They're not damaged as far as I can tell but they are badly in need of a refurb, to the point that I don't believe they would be worth much. And I just don't really have the time to sell them right now (that might sound contrived but it's true!).

You should post a pic of them, no doubt someone on here will find a use for them! Are they from an E46?

Almost all sets of second hand alloys you buy will need at least some level of refurb....

You can get a few euro a wheel for them at most scrap metal recycling yards.

Yeah maybe I will. They're not from a BMW actually, they are Oz Superturismo (5x100 fitment) which I intended to put on my old Mk4 Golf GTI but never got around to it and I've since sold the car.

For sure, but these would need to be completely redone. I actually think they were refurbished or painted (badly) to a different colour in a past life and the paint is flaking and breaking off all over the wheels, they look terrible. Cheapest quote I got for the job was €600.

Interesting, hadn't thought of that. Will have to figure out where my local recycling centre is...
