The one 'positive' thing is that NOx charge for petrol engined cars will be capped at €600 - older tractor juice car imports will indeed be hammered with the NOx cap not kicking in until €4,850 (ouch).

Will that mean that older Irish reg'd diesel engined cars will hold/possibly increase in value now as the import market will more or less dry up ?

I doubt it, such a small demand for these anyway so not expecting my 530d to increase in value

I was thinking more along the lines of more run of the mill (newer) 2.0 diesel cars.

eg. OH's 2013 VW CC will incur an additional almost €1,000 NOx charge on top of the VRT if importing in Jan for example. It may no longer make sense to import yourself, just buy one already registered here....

Everything is pointing towards (older) diesel car import numbers falling off a cliff from Jan - just what the new car dealer/PCP peddlers want....

I can't see existing diesels increasing in value, my suspicion is they'll just become unfashionable, same as petrol in 2008.

In cities, certainly - they were missold from 2008 onwards in many cases (cheap tax madame) as they are unfit for exclusively urban driving as we all know.

Diesel will live on in rural areas for quite some time yet, as long as they're not taxed into oblivion (yes, I know they will be eventually). By then, battery technology will have us doing 1,000km's on a single charge, hydrogen fuel celled cars may be widespread and most importantly battery technology will be far cheaper....

SUV's are supposed to be unfashionable remember, but I've never seen so many on the road. Manufacturers don't seem to be moving away from SUV development either, only how they'll be powered....

What are your thoughts on the F series 330e? Might try and bag a test drive this week when the old girl is getting some recall work done

There's no doubt that they're a Captain Sensible answer to the problem of trying not to get screwed as the car related environmental issues are tackled.

My only reservation would be that its such a pity they can't use the same tech with a downsized inline 6 to keep the BMW USP that the traditional engine gives. I know they did the ActiveHybrid3, but that was for a different market segment than the old 330i level. 4 pots is a pity, but unfortunately one I think we'll have to get used to.

Had an F30 330e myself until about 3 months back, great car, never gave any hassle but max range is about 23km on electric, not bad if your commute to work is within that; at one point I was about 5km each way so could get to work and back 2 days without charging.
Swapped for a G20 330e since then and Greta would be so proud of me
That's how much I have left in the tank since September when I picked up the car with a full tank from the dealer and the blue mileage is electric only.

Congrats! So what’s G20s realistic ev range in this weather? Did you get driving assistant pro or driver facing cameras come as standard?(infrared dots on your photo)
