    X5 Tyre wear

The front tyres on the X5 need to be replaced soon with 54k km on the car.

As the picture shows there’s a line in the centre of the face of the tyre which sits slightly proud of the adjacent surface. Can anyone tell me what it means, please? Under inflated/over inflated or just shagged tyres?

Dunno but they looked perished (in the thread).

Usually they eat the outside of the tyre when the tracking is out (which happens every time it sees a pothole)

They’re well perished, and look older than their 3 years. Trying to decide what to replace them them with. They’re 275/40/20 Dunlop runflats if anyone has an opinion on an alternative?
It has to be a recognised brand as they’ll be on the car when it gets sold (no point assuming I’ll keep this one for years, 1.5 years is pushing it now as it is).

What's the date stamp on the sidewalls ? Just because they were fitted 3 years ago doesn't mean the tyres themselves are only 3 years old.....

I had Bridgestone on my x5's.

Just make sure you put * rated tyres on. Otherwise it can invalid the warranty and potentially knacker the transfer box

It's a silica free band of “antenna tread” which actually helps to dissipate the static electricity as you drive (the problem with silica is it’s a very good electrical isolator. Silica rich compounds build up a static electrical charge as you drive. On occasion this can be enough to give you a small electrical shock as you exit the vehicle and your foot hits the ground, giving the electrical charge a route to earth)
