Wowser - is that how much the chain actually stretches ?

There must have been some rattle out of the engine bay alright....

Yes it is ,tensioner has it limits as well, so it gets so bad , tensioner literally broke as oil pressure pushes it out ,as much as possible to get chain tight . Unfortunately 6 cylinder engines they don’t really make lot noise , def not as much as 4 cylinder ones , so most people didn’t notice big difference ,once chain gets too loose and noisy .
