So looks like BMW finally listened to me...

    But not quite...

I’ve ranted on several times about how BMW should make a “baby M” type of car, like the e30 318is was back in its’ day.

They seem to have delivered something but sort of missed the mark (for me), in the new 128ti.

It’s kind of in the direction of what I had in mind except it’s a front wheel drive not hatch rather than a chuckable rear wheel drive with an LSD. Funnily enough it’s almost exactly the power I said it should have

Thoughts? Does it do it for you?

I really like how these look from the back but that’s about it really...

    FWD, 'nuff said......

If I wanted a FWD hot hatch I'd go to one of the manufacturers with the experience to do that well, Ford, Renault or VW,
    Current: BMW 530e M-Sport - '17, BMW 630i Sport auto - '07, BMW 325i Coupe - '93, BMW Z4 2.5si Auto - '07, '90 BMW 316i Lux.

    Previous: BMW 328i Coupe - '96, BMW 530i SE auto - '07, BMW 530i Sport auto - '02, BMW 318i SE Touring - '07, BMW 330Ci Sport - '04, BMW 520d SE - '11, BMW 523i SE - '00, BMW 328i SE Touring - '00, BMW 523i SE - '97, BMW 323i SE - '98, 330Ci - '00, 325i Coupe - '93, 318Ci - '01, 316iSE - '98, 325iSE 2dr - '91, 320i Conv - '91, 325i Coupe - '92, 320i 2dr - '91.

FWD can be fun too. And I’m sure BMW have enough overall experience to make it dynamically appealing (which top gear review suggests).
Look wise - pretty generic. Nothing to hate really, but nothing to love either.
I think the main problem will be price. I would expect north of 60k here - way too much for a warm hatch.

Edit: I’ve just checked bmw website and M135i is 52k, so this one should be what - around 40? Not that bad...

Not disagreeing with you on that, but others do it better without the BMW premium. Personal preference here but if I really wanted FWD I would have bought more than 1 (shortlived) non-BMW (non-rwd) in the past 22 years for myself.

Nice to see bmw keeping up their standards - it's as ugly as fsck ..

It looks like a focus in the side profile...

The only thing I saw worse recently was someone showed me a yas marina blue 220d grand coupe with blacked out wheels and grills that they were looking to buy up north...

In saying that they also have a current generation 7 series - and I kid you not... Its beige...

Isnt it going to be cheaper than a GTI?
Doesn't have the same catchy name and image as a GTI maybe, but having had a 118i loan car for a few weeks recently, I'd happily have a quick FWD 1 series

The new 1 series is a Mini, I still think the choice is satisfied by used M135i/M140i.
