Hi all, been a while since I posted here, hope everyone is keeping well.
Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on a VRT query.
If I purchased a car last October in Northern Ireland but have kept it in Northern Ireland since then, where does that leave me in relation to the VRT charges that have been introduced??
The car in question was originally a UK car but imported into Northern Ireland by the previous owner.

No problem - VRT(+NOX) and you're all set.
I'd make sure there's concrete evidence of it coming in before 1st January 2021 otherwise prepare for VAT + Customs Duty and some hassle.
Once the V5 is registered to a NI address you're fine, if the V5 is still registered to the UK address you'll need proof of import prior to 1st Jan as Peter said.
Cheers, the previous owner owned the car for a few years in Northern Ireland so V5 should be spot on. I just haven’t done any paper work on switching over to Southern plates as I haven’t imported down South yet, I’ve just had it in storage since October.

It’s a white 2009 gen 1.5 Beetle, took a while to find but got there eventually.
