We had one for 5 years and loved it.
However, even the newest ones are 11 years old now so plenty of parts will need to be replaced if they haven't been changed already.

Make sure you buy a good one.

Great bus with plenty of space and road presence. From experience the gearbox is the weak point and not cheap to fix when it goes wrong.

Ya I suppose going into x5 ownership with a fear of parts prices wouldn't be a good idea 😂 cut between either an x5 or an e39 530d so well see!! The gearbox is a worry!! 2 grand supposedly for a reconditioned unit fitted correct me if that's wrong?

Think after 04 the rare manual gearbox models are 6 speed.
Supposed to be ok on fuel in manual version.
