Same engine but 318d is detuned, injectors, and camshafts are diff and I think the inlet manifold.......... But not 100% sure.
Same turbo though so a remap could get the 318d upto the 320d range.....

I guess 318d is the cheaper of the two to run so (tax, insurance, repairs, etc.) naturally?

318d would be better on diesel I would imagine but there but 270 to tax and maintenance be the same.
Get a car with a decent service history, regular oil changes and you should be fine... Chain is always a greater worry with the 2.0 diesel engine.
Was the 318d engine subject to the same issue as with the 320d and 520d engines? Or was it never officially announced?
Would be looking for something with a bit of history alright

Yep same issues, N47 engine...I'd try get a 320d, extra power is noticeable I found.
Thanks DonB - power wouldn't overly bother me. But if I was to look at a 318 I would probably test drive a 320 first aswel just to have a comparison

None in particular. Budget is maxing out at about 8k so I think iDrive may be a bit optimistic in my price range without importing from NI/UK. Msport is a must for me though.
