    E46 key fob issue

Need some help. I recently bought a 2002 e46 325 convertible. They key I got was faulty. Sometimes it starts the car sometimes nit. I thi k it is a problem with the chip in the key housing. As the remote locking also didnt work I decided to purchase a new one ditect from bmw. The problem is that the new key works in the lock but the remote buttons do not just like the old one. The bmw chap did the programming procedure but it won't work the central locking. Said I could have their technician to look at it but declined as I thought it might cost a fortune to just have a look. What can i do next to fix it.
Both keys do not operate the remote functions but work in the door lock.

There's loads of videos on YouTube showing you how to do this.

What will the YouTube clips show? I know the pairing procedure and the bmw chap also followed the procedure but it doesn't work. That's where I'm stuck.

If they supplied you a key that won't pair then return it

Yes, normally I would but returning it won't solve my problem. I won't have remote locking still. I am thinking the key is fine, it must be something else. So.e say it could be the antenna in the mirror. Some say there's another component but am not sure what that is. That's why I am looking for help here rather than paying a fortune to bmw.

Replaced the mirror with a second hand one that was working before removal. Same issue. Still can't remotely lock and unlock car. Next suggestion please.

Try tape the key to the top of an electric toothbrush charger for a few hours/overnight. KickStart the built-in battery.

It's a brand new key so not a battery issue.
