BMW 318i E90 N43 engine failed NCT on Exhaust Emissions

Hi guys, just had the car for NCT today and it failed on Exhaust Emissions.

Low Idle CO 0.12 vol% PASS
    (699 rpm)

High Idle Lambda: 0.91 FAIL (should be between 0.97 and 1.03)
(2,738 rpm) CO 3.30 vol% FAIL (should be less than 0.20%)

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for the support

could be loads of things - maf, o2 sensor, camshaft sensor, leaky hose, coils etc etc

You really need to get diagnostics check on it to help narrow down the issue

Hi Eamo, thanks for reply, I connected her to INPA software yesterday and have these to faults. Its got to do with the NOx. I have had these for the past two years.

Also heard that the N43 engine lambda reading should be between 0.7 - 4.0 as its a lean burning engine. Found lots of forums in the uk saying that the MOT test was done incorrectly and that these figures need to be put in. BMW have given those figures.

Havent been on a long journey in a while only town driving and the wife's learning to drive in it. Maybe need to go for a motorway spin and clear her up a bit.

Car was tested incorrectly at the NCT centre. Talked to emissions guy at customer service. Car was given a free retest and passed with flying colours.

Found this information on the UK forums.

No thanks to anybody on this forum, no help whatsoever.
