Mr H - thanks for the suggestions, I do like Jags just feel that one is a bit too old school for me. F10 M5 doesn't do it for me either for some reason. To be perfectly honest I'm completely sold on C63s, just want to cut the middleman and pick up my own car from the UK. Would just love to know the extent of the shafting I'll get when I present it for VRT in advance.

After recently vrting two cars not on the calculator I can guarantee you they will pull your pants down on vrt. With a good c63 near 20k sterling vrt will atleast 10k!

I just vrted an 08 m3 manual. Vrt was 9200.
A few months back I vrtd an 06 cls55. Cat d car. Vrt was 5500

Both figures much higher than expected

This is depressing man... Sorry to hear you got stung for 9200 - that's ridiculous, and confirms my worries to be honest.

Do you know of anything on Irish plates someone might be tempted to sell? Haven't driven a CLS 63 for example but they must be very similar and I've always liked them. I could also actually live with the 7 speed whereas the 5 speed on earlier cars is a deal breaker for me.

The nice M5 in Cork is sold, but that was on English plates as well and I really didn't want any hassle.

This thread has been going for a while now, so forgive me if this has already been suggested.

You like the M3, but it doesn't have enough doors to meet your current needs. Surely the obvious answer is:https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...=e153ar&page=1

I'd struggle to buy an early one on expensive tax, you're getting hosed on both road tax and age.

    Edit:

Lock it up please mods - many thanks to alan b I have one more car to look at, and if that doesn't work out I'll sit tight with the M3 and bring my own car in from the UK closer to baby no.2's due date.

Has your previous foray into C class ownership (and exploding timing chains) not put you off them for life....
