Not sure if there were TU updates for later, or Japan spec, N52's, but I googled a figure of 14mg/km for a pre-LCI N52 523i (haven't looked for other sources to verify that number). If that's correct then the NOx levy would be €70 (sorry Tony, not trying to rub salt in the wounds!).

For OMSP, if you have the CO2 number they used, or from the reg doc's, you should be able to reverse calculate the OMSP. The CO2 number will give you the VRT rate. Use that rate as a decimal and (€3075/VRT rate) will give you the grossed up OMSP.
Up to yourself of course, but you'd have certain grounds for an appeal I'd suspect (between VRT & NOx) if they've gone with the highest NOx & VRT (41%) rates.

You've nothing to lose (except a bit of time & a lot of patience) essentially - I know of a few appeals that have been quite successful once official paperwork has been presented backing up the ground for appeal.

Have a friend working for a BMW dealership. I have asked of he could track down a cert of conformity with the VIN so we will see how it goes. No harm in trying as you say.

Update: VRT appeal lodged so I am hoping to have a decision early next week.

In the meantime, I decided to start on the CIC upgrade. I was not too enamoured with taking it on but I've had good advice and been given diy guides from a fellow member, Dave, who also kindly dropped the kit up to me in his glorious E92 M3.

It would have been rude not to go for a spin! It's a rocket ship, and it was a very enjoyable spin.

I took my time with the CIC retrofit doing it in stages over a few evenings, there is a lot of stripping out to do, including centre console which requires some trimming to accommodate the new I drive menu button.

Glad to report I've most of the work done and all seems to be working as it should, so I will start putting everything back together over the weekend.

I still have to install the new combox in the boot, which I will tackle shortly.

Flying it glad to say, it's a great car and very practical.

Even managed to open the pan roof yesterday, bringing the kids home from school.

Nice. Looks to be a lovely car.

I often find myself missing my E60 even though it was just a 520d, always thought it’d be nice to have one with a more interesting engine.

Yes, indeed, it was a positive outcome with a successful appeal.

Had to provide 2 independent valuations, and got a nice refund..Aidan on here who happened to bring an E61 over on the same ship as me was very helpful.

So, a nice win, my refund was quickly gobbled up with some preventative maintenance.

Very happy with it. If I were to do it again, I would have gone with a 530i for that extra bit of poke.
