So it is in fact the 2.5 and not the 3.0 525i ? (they had a cut-over about this time)

Didn't the 2.5 and 3.0 525i have basically the same bhp anyway?

    Yep - 215bhp, but peak torque increased from 250 to 270 N⋅m (184 to 199 lb⋅ft) on the 3.0

Yup, mine has the N52K engine 2496 cc.

It is a very comfortable cruiser and not overly sluggish, but with a curb weight of anywhere between 1500 to 1800kg, I wasn't expecting much in terms of performance.

I did come from driving the E46 all summer into the E61, so the difference was more pronounced to me initially.

I am really enjoying the car now and have spent a significant amount to get it to where I want it as a dependable daily driver. I've spent more on it than it is probably ever worth.

The CIC and Mr. 12 volt combo really brings the infotainment up to modern enough standards..and is probably my favourite mod so far.

A paint correction is next on the list.

not really, the n53 used in the 25i just didn't have the 3 stage intake manifold and the throttle body was restricted to only open to 75% at WOT. With a tune, they're good for 260ish bhp, with the 3 stage manifold and a tune, they'll do the same as a 30i.
