e36 m44 exhaust fumes smell inside

    Hi
after i put new engine in the car i can smell exhaust fumes inside the car, only when the vent fan is on.

and now i'm not sure if the manifold is cracked or something. else?

I have a feeling that i can hear thicking noise, not inside just outside.

Well known for cracking exhaust manifolds so I'd say that's your problem.

kris, stick a wet rag in the exhoust and start the car up. you will soon hear and see where the exhaust is leaking.
maybe it just leaking on the joint or where the manifold bolts on.

the fact you didnt took the manifold of, does not mean it not leaking on the gaskets.
i always check like that and the wistle oir cicing noise will let you knw right away where its leaking if its leaking.

A4 sheet of paper down by the manifold. Paper moves you have an issue. Also after a good drive turn the car off open the bonnet and if you listen you will hear gas escape.

    Most certainly a manifold issue.

This happened straight after when i put new engine in.
exhaust is in the same position all the time.

today I put wet cloth to block the backbox and... u could hear noise coming from engine near manifold, the one closest to the body.

so i need new M44 manifold.

    Who has one?
