I would recommend the passat, absolutely loads of boot space and the rear cabin is roomy plus isofix as standard. We bought one recently initially I was sceptical about the looks but then I really warmed to it.

Plenty of nice clean examples on the market. Apart from some interior trim they wear very well for their age.

The girlfriend has 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer that makes my e46 look like a mini in comparison. Pretty sure it would be big enough to fit 3 across but don't hold me to that.
