SMG.
Was a bit sceptical at first but then God whispered something in my ear that made it all make sense
Manual for me also. I'd say if the csl was available in manual they would have sold loads of them also. Saying that I prefer smg to these double clutch gearboxes. Way too smooth and no sense of occasion to me.
SMG made the cars faster and easier to drive fast no doubt about and therefore superior to manuals for when you're on maxmimum attack.
But SMG was too compromised for daily use.
I personally think it was totally wrong to fit the E60 M5 with SMG due to the nature of an M5 and what it stands for - that being a very fast, comfortable saloon car.
But that was the limit of the technology at the time to allow them to meet thier performance targets.
For the older cars manual wins. But thankfully SMG is long extinct!
If my latest fantasy of a CSL Compact ever happened to come into being, I still think it'd have to be SMG. There's just something about the thump you get in the higher shift speeds that's addictive!
I bet your chiropractor drives an F10 M5 with DCT! :P
No DCT option? Or is that for another thread

Well SMG just about has it
