The power steering just went on my car. It was going fine until I parked up for 5 mins, when I started it again there was no power steering. Turned it off and back on just in case, but still the same.
Any ideas what it would be, the pump?

Will it work if you rev the car?
Also check the fluid level!
No, I'd to drive home a little bit and it didn't change.
The fluid level is ok.
I'll be able to check more tomorrow, is there a fuse that could have blown? I'm hoping.
You have the E46 330i?Originally Posted by Geoff_D
If so then it's a fully hydraulic system so there's no fuses. And if it is a 330 then it's more than likely the power steering pump, common enough to fail on the M54 engine esp the E46 for some reason!
My E46 just started having this issue. When I Rev it does loosen up and begin to work, but it is stiff. Do you happen to know the cause of this? I just had my high pressure hose replaced recently but the mechanic didn't say anything about the pump being bad, and this only seems to happen in cold below 35 degrees..
Thanks for your help!
