    Changing a starter

    Can anyone whos done one on a m44 e36 tell me the handiest way.from the top or is it easier from below? I won't have the use of a lift.thanks

    Have done and is a cunt to get at. Off with the battery, tray and hcv. No need to remove intake. You'll be flying blind but is doable

    Intake off is easiest way.

    I've always gone in from the back. Just drop the gearbox mounts and go in with about 4 foot of extensions onto the starter. Getting the wires off is more awkward but its easier other than that.
