I know how you feel man, I have the exact same problem, except with my temp gauge, can't get to the bottom of it at all.
You check the connections at the pump?
You still have a complete pump from the one you're breaking? If you do, disconnect the pump in the car and plug in another pump and move the float level, see if the gauge moves? process of elimination.

Well the inevitable happened this morning on the way to work, she ran out of go juice:crying: So quick trip to the petrol station, a push and we were back in business. :happy:
Oddly, after 2 weeks of no gauge working and going through a couple of hundred quids worth she decided to work. Maybe she knew if there had of been petrol in it I would have burnt her where she sat! :surprised::hehe!:
