Hi just joined sorry if im in the wrong area
I recently got a 320d 2005 e90, it wont start now it just keeps trying to until the battery dies, but when i put jump leads on for awhile it will start, but even after an hours driving when i turn it off it wont start again
Hi, either your battery or alternator are dead by the sound of it.
Could it be anything to do with the fuel not getting to it
When you say jumping the car helps, how long do you need to crank it before it starts.
It could be your fuel pump, if the pre supply pressure is too low the car won't fire.
I have to keep the leads on for about 5minutes, after a few turns it will start and throw out a puff of diesel
Put the battery from the other car in and try it
Your description of the battery depletion is vague.Originally Posted by Tanika
Do you need to apply jump leads after killing the battery from cranking the engine?
Or when you go out to the car is it already flat?
When you try to start it is it clicking or making a whirring sound. Whirring indicates its the starter if not as mentioned its your battery or alternator. Try another battery first. When you turn the key before you try to start it can you hear the fuel pump priming? If not that maybe your issue. But honestly if you can get it started and drive it for a bit and then try and start and it wont it will be the alternator or a connection to it or the battery as it should charge the battery as you drive
When i go out the car, put the key in and press the button it will keep trying to start until it flattens the battery, then when i put the leads on for awhile it will go. Engine light also came on. If i change the battery to check if thats the problem is it just a case of swapping batteries or does it need programing ?
