Heard on the grapevine that BMW are issuing a recall on the timing chains for late 07 and 08 E60's. Letters going out to dealers today apparently
That's all I know for the moment

took them long enough, wonder why they've decided to do it now, i'd imagine they'll be alot of relieved owners..
Only E6x? Not E9x?

Parts and labour covered seemly.
That's BMW's way of saying they're doing nothing for those who have had it repaired already.Originally Posted by kceire

As a fella that works in test and has done for 16 years, I can only laugh at the terminology being used by BMW here. If it was a QA program, we wouldn't be in this position in the first place with 2L DIEsels - this should've not only been caught at factory, but rectified in subsequent deliveries of models using this engine/timing chain combination. There are zero excuses that this is going on 8 years without formal intervention.
Recall it definitely is, if the above is going ahead.
One thing that just struck me, the issue is still present in 2009, 2010, 2011 & 2012 cars right now. There are plenty of stories floating about on line about failures on even F10 & F30 cars. When does the QA program start for those models?

I wonder if they'll now address the timing chain issue on N42, N43 and N46 petrol engines?
